I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!

I just got back from Hawaii last week, and now I’m about to head out on a trip with some girlfriends this weekend. It got me thinking about why traveling is so good for your soul and overall being. I’m not talking about “wanderlust”, where every girl on instagram is flying 12 hours away to take photos of their butts on a beach. To me, travel can be driving two hours away from your town and spending a day somewhere new. As a flight attendant, I get paid to travel, but sometimes I truly forget why it’s so great. I’ll get into the un-glamorous life of flight attendants in another post. But for now, I’m going to spend time appreciating why traveling can be a great thing for your psyche. It’s so important to me to take my unborn son on adventures throughout his life, whether that means a cross-country trek or a short drive to the beach. Here’s why:
Exploring somewhere new can be terrifying and exhilarating at the same time. Sometimes you’re in for a real culture shock. In the moment, it might not seem that great (um, you want me to poop in a hole?). But all those experiences are helping you grow as a person. You’re learning to deal with things outside of your comfort zone. You’re pushing boundaries within yourself. Nothing can push you in this same way besides traveling.
Seeing how other people live can broaden your perspective. Empathy is one of the main traits I want to teach my son as he grows. And experiencing life in another culture allows you to free your mind to see alternative ways of being. If we want to teach our kids to be good people, it’s important to see life from different points of view. It’s hard to do this from your couch while scrolling facebook.
Traveling can also connect you with those around you. You may build connections with random strangers you meet on your travels. But you’ll also form a deeper bond with whoever you travel with. When you look back at your life experiences, it’s most likely the trips you took with your family and friends that stand out in your memories.
Travel also does something so important for our souls: it forces us to take a break from everyday life! Put down the phone. Take in wherever you are. Travel forces us to be in the moment, and there is nothing like it to help us appreciate the infinite possibilities of life ahead of us.
